Redbird is a Native American and environmental organization which gained state and federal non profit status in 1994.  In 2011 we acquired the Chilao School complex in the heart of the Angeles National Forest, our first land base, and an opportunity to dramatically expand the scope of our work.  Today our programs include The Children of Many Colors Native American Powwow (June 3-5, Oxnard College, Gymnasium Field), our Blanket, Toy and School Supplies Drive and Mini-Powwow (first Saturday in December, Simi Valley Library), the Forest Recovery Project (ten plus year documentary/presentation series), the Highway 2 art show, Moto Yoga, and ongoing programs at Chilao School including culture, the environment, arts, healing arts and motorcycle safety.  We have no membership dues, are supported entirely through donations. We welcome people of all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds to participate in our programs.

One of the projects we are currently engaged in is our Fire Safe Campaign at Chilao School, where we are working diligently to improve our chances of surviving a wildfire with fire retardant paint and structural upgrades, what is referred to as "hardening your home" against fire.  We're sharing that experience in the hope that we can inspire others to take the threat of fire seriously, and respond proactively.

forest Recovery project

The Bobcat fire displaced us for one month and impacted vast tracts of the Angeles National Forest. We will continue with the work of the Forest Recovery Project, revealing the lessons of nature as we enter an unprecedneted but predicted era in our
global climate.

blanket drive and mini powwow

We had a wonderful blanket drive and  mini powwow on December 4 with the drums Blue Star, Bear Springs and Hale and Company.  We got so many beautiful donations...new and handmade blankets and quilts, new wool and wool blend socks and cold weather gear, generous shipping donations...we lost count of how many boxes exactly were shipped, but we think the number is somewhere around 42.
We are engaged in and host a variety of programs, and we embrace the principle of Mitakuye Oyasin - All My Relations, or, We Are All Related; understanding that our words, thoughts and actions affect not only ourselves but everything around us, and that we are connected to each other, one and all, in the physical and spiritual dimensions.

we depend on your

Engage
Come to a class at Chilao School or to a presentation of After The Fire at any number of southern California locations.  Come to our powwow, our blanket drive, teach a workshop, lead a retreat, or just come and connect with nature.  Dance, live, learn, smile, dream, grow.

you can be the

Change
There are environmental and human rights issues that beg for our attention and presence.  And there are people all around us who could use encouragement, support, mentoring.  Let's be the change we seek.  Let's live now, and meaningfully.
